Now, here’s something to keep everyone healthy, a delicious and nutritious banana and blueberry lassi cum smoothie recipe from our long-term consultant, George Dorgan, who organises our Babur Tasting Group along with many other things for Babur.

Bananas contain potassium, vitamins C and B6, antioxidants, carotenoids and tryptophan and these can improve heart health, fight against oxidative stress, lower the risk of Type 2 diabetes, lower the risk of asthma, promote digestive health and can improve athletic performance.

Blueberries are packed with antioxidants and phytoflavinoids, are high in potassium and vitamin C and can lower your risk of heart disease and cancer and are an anti-inflammatory. Nutmeg, cinnamon and ginger are antioxidants, anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, anti-depressant and may benefit heart health and improve blood sugar control and can reduce insulin resistance.

Ingredients and method:

½ pint of milk (preferably skimmed)

1 over-ripe banana (liberally freckled with brown spots)

2 or 3 tablespoons of yoghurt

small handful of blueberries

pinch of ground cinnamon, powdered ginger and a few good gratings of fresh nutmeg

Blend at high speed for 30 seconds and drink right away. It will be a bright purple – the best time to drink it – and the colour will soon start to fade.
